Welcome to the home of the…

2009 11th Annual “LakersCentral” NBA Playoffs Tournament!

I wish I could say that last year’s playoffs were a success, but the mighty Lakers fell without Big Bynum ;.(. I was very surprised to see how many people picked them to win it all… I’m sure they appreciated all the support. It looks like it’ll be even harder to pick out who will win this year, as there’s a few great teams, and many very good ones. Playoffs begin April 18th. I cant wait… I Love This Game!

Here’s a link to last year’s tournament (if you weren’t in it, and you’d like to see how it went). This year’s tournament will be run much the same as last year. I’ll be collecting the $10 entry fee a bit earlier this year, in order to give everyone ample time to get it to me (please do so ASAP, as a few people weren’t able to do the tournament last year because they forgot to get things turned in on time. “I’m good for it” doesn’t work this year… you’ve been warned in advance :.) ). If you wont be seeing me in the next couple weeks, you can submit your entry fee by Paypal (note: there’s a $1 transaction fee). As it is such a close playoff race, the brackets will most likely not be set until the last day of the regular season (Wednesday, April 15th). Please note, this only gives you two days to fill in your bracket!! I will send out the brackets immediately after the teams are set. I’ll once again be putting everyone’s brackets online, and posting the scores as we go, so you can view how you’re doing throughout the tournament.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’m open to them… but I’ve run this thing for 11 years now and have tried tweaking little things over the years, and I think I got down the best way. When the brackets come out, I will post them here, as well as email them. You’ll need to fill out which team you think will win each series, and the number of game you think they’ll win it in. I need that filled out and to me by Friday, April 17th. Good luck!

Decided that there will only be 2 places this year, as there was only 12 people (15 last year). The money will be divided 2 ways:

    1st place: $80
    2nd place: $40

    * In the event of a tie for 1st, the prize will be split $60/$60. Tie for 2nd: $80/$20/$20

I usually dont do this, but I updated the brackets with the final score tally.

I went over the original submitted brackets, and verified the point totals. I had accidentally incorrectly given a couple people an extra 10 points, but it didn’t change the results.

As you can see, the final scores were all very close. Sometimes it just comes down to a guy missing a layup. Congratulations Jasen Frelot with first place, and Brian Hankey and my dad splitting 2nd place.

Next year I may reinstitute “upset bonus points”, whereby you’d collect more points for predicting an upset. I also may do a “bank team”, whereby you could earn extra points by selecting one team in the first & second round that you are “banking” on. If that team wins in the selected number of games you predicted, you’ll earn more points than usual.

If theres any other suggestions as to how we could make it more interesting, or avoid ties, or whatever, let me know!

Thanks everyone for playing. Hopefully we can get more people next year, and maybe some non-Laker fans to lose their money as well ;.)
